Community Guidelines

THE SABIL community is a sanctuary for sincere seekers, reflective thinkers, and those committed to restoration — of self, society, and spirit. These guidelines exist not to police but to preserve the trust, dignity, and depth that make our community worth belonging to.

01

Foundation of Our Community

Every community space within THE SABIL ecosystem — digital forums, course discussion boards, study circles, retreat gatherings, volunteer networks, and live sessions — is built on three foundational commitments:

  • Respect: Every participant is treated with dignity regardless of background, belief, experience level, or perspective. Disagreement is welcome; disrespect is not.
  • Sincerity: We value genuine inquiry over performance, honest vulnerability over curated perfection, and earnest engagement over casual consumption.
  • Safety: Emotional, psychological, and spiritual safety are prerequisites for growth. We protect these fiercely.

These principles apply universally across all divisions, platforms, and gatherings of THE SABIL. Community facilitators and moderators are empowered to enforce these standards with fairness and discernment.

02

Expected Conduct

We expect all community members to engage with the following standards:

  • Communicate with clarity, kindness, and intellectual honesty
  • Listen as much as you speak, and speak with the awareness that others are listening
  • Honor confidentiality — what is shared in community stays in community unless explicit permission is given
  • Respect the pace and boundaries of others; never pressure, interrogate, or push someone beyond their comfort
  • Share content that is relevant to the space and respectful of the topic at hand
  • Attribute ideas and quotes appropriately; plagiarism and unattributed use violate intellectual and community integrity
  • Approach disagreement with curiosity rather than combativeness

Our community thrives when members bring their full selves — but the "full self" includes the capacity for restraint, empathy, and humility.

03

Prohibited Conduct

The following conduct is strictly prohibited in all THE SABIL community spaces and will result in immediate action:

  • Harassment, bullying, or intimidation of any individual or group
  • Hate speech, discriminatory language, or content targeting protected characteristics
  • Sharing explicit, pornographic, or sexually suggestive material
  • Promoting violence, extremism, or illegal activities
  • Doxxing, sharing private information about others without consent
  • Impersonating staff, scholars, community leaders, or other members
  • Spamming, unsolicited commercial promotion, or pyramid scheme recruitment
  • Sharing copyrighted material without authorization
  • Deliberately disrupting sessions, courses, or community events
  • Exploiting community vulnerability — using emotional disclosure for personal gain, romantic pursuit, or manipulation

Violations may result in content removal, temporary suspension, permanent banning, and — in cases involving illegal activity — referral to appropriate authorities. THE SABIL maintains sole discretion in determining what constitutes a violation.

04

Spiritual & Religious Engagement

Given the spiritually reflective nature of much of our community content, we set specific expectations for religious discourse:

  • Respect diverse Islamic schools of thought and interpretive approaches without requiring conformity
  • Engage Qur'anic and prophetic references with appropriate reverence and contextual care
  • Accept that sincere seekers may come from various backgrounds, including those exploring Islam without formal commitment
  • Avoid sectarian disputes, takfir (declaring others non-Muslim), and inflammatory religious rhetoric
  • Recognize the difference between scholarly discussion and personal spiritual insight, presenting each with appropriate humility

Our spiritual spaces are for contemplation, learning, and mutual uplift — not for doctrinal gatekeeping, religious one-upmanship, or spiritual arrogance.

05

Protecting Vulnerable Disclosure

Our community often involves personal disclosure — reflections on mental health, spiritual struggle, family difficulty, or past trauma. This vulnerability is sacred and must be protected:

  • Never screenshot, record, or share another member's vulnerable disclosure outside the community space
  • Respond to disclosure with empathy, not advice-giving — unless you are qualified and the advice is solicited
  • Refrain from diagnosing, prescribing, or positioning yourself as an authority in areas beyond your expertise
  • Recognize when a disclosure indicates crisis and direct the member toward professional resources
  • Community facilitators may remove content that is excessively graphic, self-harm oriented, or potentially harmful to others

Trust, once broken, is difficult to restore. We ask every member to treat the vulnerability of others as they would wish their own to be treated.

06

Moderation & Enforcement

Community moderation is conducted by trained facilitators and administrators who are guided by these principles:

  • Proportionality — consequences match the severity and intent of the violation
  • Consistency — similar violations receive similar responses across different spaces
  • Transparency — when content is removed or accounts are restricted, the affected user is informed of the reason
  • Redemption — where appropriate, pathways for restoration are offered after genuine acknowledgment and change
  • Protection — the safety of the vulnerable takes priority over the comfort of the violator

Moderation decisions may be reviewed by senior community leadership but are not subject to public debate or social media pressure campaigns. We maintain the integrity of our process above external noise.

07

Reporting Concerns

If you observe conduct that violates these guidelines, compromises community safety, or causes you concern, we encourage you to report it through:

  • The in-platform reporting tools available on community features
  • Direct contact through our Contact page
  • Email to our community care team (address available upon account registration)

Reports are handled confidentially. We do not tolerate retaliation against individuals who report in good faith. False reports intended to harass or deceive are themselves violations of these guidelines.

If you are experiencing an immediate safety threat in a physical community gathering, contact local emergency services first, then notify THE SABIL team as soon as safe to do so.

Questions about this policy? We welcome thoughtful inquiry.
